The foundation stone for the new bus stand, which will be built at a cost of ₹800 crore, will be laid on January 29: Minister

Tamil Nadu: Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P.K. Sekarbabu announced on Friday that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will lay the foundation stone for a new bus stand at Broadway in Chennai on the 29th of this month, at a cost of ₹800 crore.

The existing Broadway bus stand has been demolished, and a new one will be constructed in its place. Consequently, a temporary bus stand connecting the Thivuthidal and Royapuram flyover areas has been built at a cost of ₹8 crore. It was inaugurated by Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar in the presence of Public Works Minister and Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority Chairman P.K. Sekarbabu.

Later, Minister P.K. Sekarbabu told reporters:

The DMK government is implementing several development projects in North Chennai. As part of this, a new bus stand, multi-story car parking, and other facilities will be constructed at a cost of ₹800 crore at the site of the famous Broadway bus stand, which has a 75-year history and is considered the gateway to Chennai.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate the work on the 29th of this month.

Since a new bus stand is being constructed, a temporary bus stand has been built at Thivuthidal, under the Royapuram flyover, to ensure that traffic is not affected. He said that all buses operating from the Broadway bus stand will now operate from the temporary bus stand, where all necessary facilities are available.

Chennai Mayor R. Priya, Commissioner J. Kumarakurubaran, Transport Department Managing Director Prabhushankar, and others participated in the event.
