Punjab: The Chief Khalsa Dewan on Saturday restored the membership of 63 persons, including Satyajit Singh Majithia, father of arrested SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia. Their membership was cancelled four months ago for their continued absence from the meetings of the body, one of the Sikh community’s largest bodies in the field of education. The Chief Khalsa Dewan is a 123-year-old body currently headed by AAP MLA Inderbir Singh Nijjar. The decision to terminate the membership was taken at the organisation’s general body and executive committee meetings. The organisation’s honorary secretary Ramnik Singh said in a statement that there were “several discrepancies” in the list of 63 persons whose membership was terminated based on the decisions of the executive committee meeting held on March 23 and the general body held on March 30.

“In view of this, it was recommended that the membership termination proposal be withdrawn so that the list could be re-examined,” the statement said. The executive committee and the general body unanimously approved the withdrawal of resolutions related to the termination of membership of members. Ramnik Singh also urged the organization’s members to avoid internal strife as according to him it harms the image of the organization. Following the directions of the in-charge Akal Takht secretariat, the institution’s vice-presidents Santokh Singh Sethi and Tajinder Singh said they have passed the budget to organize a grand Kirtan Darbar to mark Guru Harkrishan Jayanti on July 20 at the school here. Nijjar appealed to all the members to attend the Kirtan Darbar along with their families and seek the blessings of the Guru.
