Patna (IANS) | A major portion of the under-construction four-lane bridge across the Ganga river between Sultanganj and Aguwani in Bihar collapsed in the river on Sunday evening. Earlier also a part of this under-construction bridge had collapsed. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given instructions to investigate the entire matter. Meanwhile, after this incident BJP is demanding resignation of Nitish Kumar from the post of Chief Minister, while JDU has come to the rescue of the government.
The video of the collapse of the bridge being constructed between Khagaria-Aguwani-Sultanganj is now going viral on social media. According to the officials, the segment on three legs from the Parbatta police station area of Khagaria also collapsed and fell into the river Ganga.
After getting information about the incident, the officials of the district administration reached the spot and started the investigation.
It is worth mentioning that earlier also the super structure of this under-construction bridge had fallen into the river. In the strong storm and rain, about 100 feet long part had fallen to the ground.
The foundation stone of this bridge was laid in the year 2014 by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took detailed information about the matter from Additional Chief Secretary of the Road Construction Department, Pratyay Amrit, after receiving information about the collapse of the upper part of the super structure of the Mahasetu under construction between Khagaria-Aguwani-Sultanganj.
The Chief Minister has directed the Additional Chief Secretary Road Construction Department to conduct a detailed inquiry into the collapse of the super structure of the bridge and ensure strict action by identifying the culprits.
Meanwhile, politics has now started after the incident. State President of BJP Samrat Chaudhary has demanded resignation from the post of Chief Minister, holding Nitish Kumar directly responsible for this.
He said, “The entire government is involved in corruption. If there is anyone to blame for this incident, only Nitish Kumar is to blame. If there is even an iota of morality left in Nitish, he should resign.”
JDU’s chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered an inquiry into the entire matter, those who are guilty will not be spared.
