The accused of stealing from a utensils shop has been arrested, the thief was identified through CCTV

Raigarh. Dharamjaigarh police has arrested the accused who committed theft in a utensils shop located at Maharana Pratap Chowk in Dharamjaigarh police station area. Police have also recovered stolen utensils and cash from the possession of the accused. The CCTV camera installed in the shop played an important role in this entire case, in which the pictures of the accused were captured. On the basis of CCTV footage, the police identified the accused with the help of their informers and then detained him from his house and interrogated him, where he confessed to the crime.

According to the information, the report of this incident was lodged on July 28 by the applicant Ankit Kumar Gupta, father Arun Kumar Gupta (age 25 years), resident of Maharana Pratap Chowk, Dharamjaigarh. The applicant told that he has a ‘Maa Saraswati utensils shop’ in Dharamjaigarh, on the night of July 25, due to some domestic work, he closed the shop at 7:30 pm. When he opened the shop the next morning, the shutter and lock were found broken. On investigation inside, it was found that various utensils kept in two sacks, worth about ₹10,000, and ₹15,000 cash kept in the cash box had been stolen. On watching the CCTV footage of the shop, it became clear that an unknown person broke the shutter at night and entered inside and committed the theft. On the complaint of the applicant, a case was registered in Police Station Dharamjaigarh under Crime No. 203/2025 Section 305 (A), 331 (4) BNS and investigation was started.

During the investigation, the CCTV footage was shared with the informers in which the informer informed that Prakash alias Sagar Sarathi alias Cheme (age 21 years), resident of Turrapara, Ward No. 4, Dharamjaigarh, is involved in this theft. Police detained the accused from his house and interrogated him, in which he confessed to the crime. 5 big steel plates and 5 small steel plates and ₹2000 cash have been seized from the accused, the rest of the utensils were thrown down from the bridge of Mandh river out of fear and he spent ₹13,000. On the indication of the accused, the utensils were recovered from the bushes and seized in front of witnesses. The accused was duly arrested today and sent on judicial remand. CCTV cameras played a decisive role in this police action, due to which the identification and arrest of the accused was possible.
