Telangana: Harish Rao condemns arrest of Asha workers

Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao condemned the arrest of ASHA workers in Telangana and demanded their immediate release. He questioned whether demanding a salary hike as promised in the Congress manifesto had become a crime. “Deploying hundreds of policemen, forcibly taking ASHA workers into vehicles and detaining them – is this the respect women get in Indiramma Rajyam (Indiramma rule)?” he asked, taking a dig at the Congress.

Harish Rao accused the Congress of deceiving people with false promises and using force to suppress dissent. “In just 15 months, people from all walks of life have realised the Congress’ betrayal. There are protests everywhere, and yet this government is responding with illegal arrests and undemocratic rule,” he said. Pointing out that the government had already presented two budgets, Harish Rao criticised the government’s failure to implement election promises. She demanded immediate wage hike for ASHA workers and warned that BRS would stand with them until the Congress fulfils its commitments.
