Two Congress Corporators in Indore Refuse to Sing Vande Mataram, FIR Filed

Indore: It is known that two corporators of Indore Municipality in Madhya Pradesh did not sing the Vande Mataram song. They refused to sing the national anthem Vande Mataram during the budget meeting of the Municipal Corporation. This incident took place on April 8. Congress corporator Fauzia Sheikh Alim opposed the singing of the Vande Mataram song. She said that the song cannot be sung according to Islamic beliefs. Another corporator Rubina Iqbal Khan also supported Fauzia. Rubina, who won as an independent corporator, later joined the Congress party.

The two refused to sing the national anthem. A case has been registered against Fauzia and Rubina under Section 196 of the IPC at the BJ Road police station. The police, who summoned both of them, have been questioning them for the past two days. The police said that they have recorded their statements. They said that they have registered an FIR considering it a cognitive offense. They said that they are investigating the case thoroughly.
