Telangana: Farmers staged a ‘rasta roko’ protest, demanding action against rice mill owners

Nirmal: Farmers at Perakapalli village in Dasturabad mandal on Tuesday staged a sit-in on the road demanding action against rice millers who were accused of cutting about 2 kg of paddy per 41.300 kg grain sack under the guise of poor quality and moisture in the paddy. Hundreds of farmers from the village gathered and blocked traffic on the Nirmal-Khanapur road, affecting vehicular movement for some time. They demanded the authorities to take action against the millers who cut about 2 kg of paddy per grain sack while buying grain from the growers. They regretted that they were incurring losses due to this practice of the millers. They withdrew the protest when police and revenue officials assured them of justice by investigating the allegations. Police and revenue officials told the agitators that they would bring the issue to the notice of higher authorities and take action if the millers were found guilty.
