Hyderabad: Constable Mohammed Ali Mohiuddin of Langer Houz police station sustained serious injuries while trying to separate two groups fighting over a kite near Jani Begum Mosque in Pensionpura, under the limits of Toli Chowki police station. The dispute over the kite was three days old and escalated on Sunday.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mohiuddin said he was on patrol duty with a fellow constable around 2 pm on Sunday when they received information about a fight between two groups led by the sons of two local political leaders, Ahmed and Rahim. The fight was over who would claim a kite that had landed in their area.
Tensions escalated when Ahmed allegedly attacked two people, after which about 30 to 40 people gathered near his house. The crowd started pelting stones, creating panic in the area.
The police tried to intervene and disperse the crowd. However, the stone-pelting continued, and a stone hit Mohiuddin, rendering him unconscious.
Police said a local resident took the injured constable to a private hospital, where doctors advised surgery for his broken nose.
Medical examination reports revealed that the constable had suffered fractures in three places in his nose, and doctors advised a CT scan for further medical procedures.
The police have recorded the constable’s statement and are trying to identify the stone-pelters through CCTV camera footage from Pensionpura and surrounding areas.
