Tej Pratap’s candidate Veena Manvi was arrested immediately after her nomination.

Patna: On Monday, the last day of nominations for the Bankipur Assembly by-election, chaos erupted in the Patna Collectorate premises when police detained Veena Manvi, a candidate from Tej Pratap Yadav’s Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD). As soon as Manvi emerged from filing her nomination papers, the police force already present surrounded her and arrested her. Following this surprise action, high-voltage drama and commotion continued for a long time in the Collectorate premises. According to Patna Police, a non-bailable warrant (NBW) had been issued by the court against Veena Manvi in ββan old case related to fraud (Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code). Police had received information that she would be arriving at the Collectorate on Monday to file her nomination. Based on this information, a police team laid a trap. As soon as she emerged from the process, the police, in compliance with the court order, detained her. According to eyewitnesses and police sources, as soon as Veena Manvi realized the presence of a large police force in the premises, she attempted to quietly leave. However, she was immediately stopped by alert female police officers and security personnel. Meanwhile, Veena Manvi and her supporters vehemently protested the police action. After a considerable amount of commotion and struggle, the police were able to escort her to their vehicle. While being taken into police custody, Veena Manvi became completely emotional. She continued to cry and plead with the police to release her. In front of media cameras, she described the entire action as a deliberate political conspiracy. Veena Manvi alleged, “The opposition parties are panicked by the fear of losing the election. Under political pressure and at the behest of the BJP, the police deliberately took this action on nomination day to prevent me from contesting the election.” Meanwhile, her supporters raised slogans outside the Collectorate and accused the administration of acting under pressure from the ruling party. On the other hand, the police administration has completely rejected allegations of political pressure. Police officials state that this is not a political matter, but a purely legal process. This action was taken under the non-bailable warrant issued by the Honorable Court. The police clarified that everyone is equal before the law and the accused was arrested according to established procedures. Immediately after her arrest, Veena Manvi was taken for a medical examination, after which she was produced before the relevant court for further legal proceedings and remand. It is noteworthy that political activity in Patna was already high due to the Bankipur by-election. On Monday, the last day of nominations, in addition to Veena Manvi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha and Jan Suraj Party candidate Prashant Kishore also reached the Collectorate with a large crowd of their supporters to file their nominations. Security arrangements were already tight due to the presence of prominent figures. In this context, the arrest of a candidate representing an ally of the main opposition alliance just after the nomination has further heated up the election campaign in Bankipur. It remains to be seen what impact this dramatic development will have on the upcoming election and the public mood.
