Water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna in Prayagraj receded for the third consecutive day, though the lack of further decline at Phaphamau raised concerns.
Prayagraj. A decline in the water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers has been recorded for the third consecutive day in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. While the receding water has brought some relief to the administration and the public, concerns have also risen due to the water level stabilizing in the Phaphamau area (Ganga) and the slowing rate of the Yamuna’s recession at Naini.
According to data released up to 8 PM on Tuesday, the Yamuna’s water level at Naini was recorded at 79.56 meters. Meanwhile, the Ganga’s water level remained steady at 80.67 meters at Phaphamau. Additionally, the water level of the Ganga at Chatnag was recorded at 79.10 meters.
Earlier, at 4 PM on Tuesday, the Ganga’s water level was recorded at 80.68 meters at Phaphamau and 79.18 meters at Chatnag, while the Yamuna’s level at Naini was 79.60 meters. Although the data indicates a drop in water levels in some places, the situation is being closely monitored due to the Ganga remaining steady at Phaphamau and the Yamuna’s receding pace slowing down at Naini.
Officials from the Irrigation Department’s flood control room state that the specific reasons behind the Ganga’s water level stabilizing at Phaphamau and the Yamuna’s receding speed slowing at Naini are not yet known. The department is continuously monitoring the water levels of both rivers and is prepared to handle any potential situation.
In Prayagraj, rising water levels in the Ganga and Yamuna often cause anxiety among residents living in low-lying areas of the city. River water frequently reaches riverside localities, causing difficulties for the people; consequently, the drop in water levels is being viewed as welcome news.
However, the administration remains vigilant. Flood control teams are keeping a constant watch on water levels. Surveillance has also been stepped up in riverside areas to ensure immediate action can be taken in the event of an emergency.
