Punjab: A case of rape of a minor girl studying in class V has been registered at Jalandhar Cantt police station. The victim’s parents have alleged that a school teacher was sexually harassing their daughter and threatening to kill her if she reveals anything to anyone. Acting on the complaint, the police registered an FIR under relevant sections 376 (A) of IPC and 4, 6 of POCSO Act and arrested the teacher named Tobias Thapar, a resident of Jalandhar Cantt. The police reportedly produced the suspect in court today and took him on one-day remand. The victim’s mother, in her complaint to the police, said that the suspect was teaching piano to her daughter in school. She said that he used to call her daughter towards the old canteen and rape her. According to information, the victim’s mother told in her statement that the teacher was sexually harassing the girl for the last few months and threatened to kill her if she reveals anything to anyone. She said that her daughter was in shock and scared so she did not share anything.
Police said that the matter came to light when the school summer vacations started and the parents noticed that their daughter was behaving differently and was in shock. Then they questioned her and she told the whole story. After this, a complaint was made to the police and a case was registered in this regard. SHO Cantt Amritpal Sharma said that the suspect has been arrested from Jalandhar Cantt area. He said that further investigation is going on in the case.
