Tarn Taran: Sarpanch shot dead

Tarn Taran: Two unidentified youths riding a motorcycle left him with a Sarpanch (Jeff) of Chabbal village here on Saturday. The attackers fled after killing the Sarpanch. Police confirmed the murder and said that the deceased has been identified as Avan Kumar alias Sonu Cheema, Sarpanch of Chabbal village. Police said that on Saturday, unknown assailants fired two bullets at Avan Kumar when he was sitting in the salon for a haircut. According to a witness, one of the attackers entered the Berlina and shot him twice, but he jumped out and fled with his companion, who had kept the motorcycle engine running. Police said that soon after the incident, Awan was shifted to a private hospital in Amritsar, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. Till that moment, the police had no information about the accused, as multiple police teams were working on him and conducting a thorough investigation while reviewing CCTV images from nearby cameras. He says Awan always carries a gun with him, but he keeps it in the car parked outside the salon. At the time of the crime, no one confronted the gunman who had his own personal security but due to his mistake he lost his life.
