Tamil Nadu: Yellow alert for heavy rain in 6 districts

Tamil Nadu: A ‘yellow’ warning has been issued for heavy rains on Friday (May 1) in six districts, including the Nilgiris and Coimbatore. According to a press release issued by the Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area is active over Tamil Nadu, extending from southern interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar, causing a change in weather in the state.
The Meteorological Department stated that due to this system, light rain and strong winds are expected at many places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions until Saturday (May 2). On Friday, heavy rain is expected at isolated places in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, and Erode districts. Similarly, heavy rain is also expected at isolated places in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, and Virudhunagar districts on Saturday. In light of these circumstances, a ‘yellow’ alert has been issued for these districts.
The Meteorological Department also stated that isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may experience light rain and strong winds until May 6th. Partly cloudy skies are expected in Chennai and Puducherry on Friday.
The Meteorological Department also reported a rise in temperatures. On Thursday, 17 locations across the state recorded the highest temperature. Vellore recorded the highest temperature of 108.32 degrees Fahrenheit. Furthermore, Erode recorded 106.52 degrees Celsius, Paramathi Vellore 106.7 degrees Celsius, Trichy 105.62 degrees Celsius, Tiruttani 105 degrees Celsius, Meenambakkam 104.36 degrees Celsius, Namakkal 104.18 degrees Celsius, Madurai Airport 104.9 degrees Celsius, and Nagapattinam 103.1 degrees Fahrenheit.
Other places recorded temperatures of 102.92 degrees Fahrenheit in Madurai city and Tirupattur, 102.56 degrees Fahrenheit in Salem and Dharmapuri, 102.2 degrees Fahrenheit in Thanjavur, 100.22 degrees Fahrenheit in Coimbatore and Palakkad, and 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit in Chennai’s Nungambakkam.
The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in view of the changing weather, especially in districts where heavy rainfall is predicted.
This change in weather in India’s southern states could impact agriculture and normal life in the coming days, so the administration is closely monitoring the situation.
