Tamil Nadu : The construction of flyover on Mamallapuram bypass road under ECR road expansion is in full swing.
The National Highways Authority of India has allocated Rs 700 crore for four-laning of East Coast Road from Mamallapuram in Chengalpattu district to Puducherry. The work is currently underway. 5,434 acres of government outlying and patta lands were acquired for the four-laning work and buildings constructed on them were demolished.
Subsequently, due compensation as prescribed by the government for the patta lands seized from private individuals was paid to the owners. The compensation has been paid and road construction work is underway in East Coast Road areas including Mamallapuram, Kalpakkam, Kadambady, Kunnathur, Upper Perumalsery, Lower Perumalsery and Manmai.
Notably, more than 500 huge trees including Vakkai trees, Neem trees, Punga trees, Kondra trees, Neem trees on both sides of the road on the land acquired for the road expansion project were removed using a tree cutting machine.
In this situation, on the 4-lane highway, in the first phase, in one area, a section of the road from Mamallapuram to Kadambadi has been completed, turning it into a two-lane highway, and vehicles are moving in both directions in that area.
Notably, work has started to build a flyover at the 4-way junction of Mamallapuram bypass so that vehicles going from Puducherry to Chennai can go straight without stopping at the signal.
For this, cement concrete barriers have been installed on both sides of the flyover to prevent sand from sliding, and now the sand filling work has started. Sand is being brought by trucks from the lakes and ponds near Mamallapuram and with the help of JCB machines, sand is being filled up to the height of the flyover. Thousands of tons of sand will be brought for this. Road Development Department officials have also said that the work is going on at a fast pace.
