Chennai: The Third Additional District Sessions Court in Tirunelveli convicted two men of murder and sentenced each to life imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Perumal Sami (29), a resident of Rasta, was murdered in 2014 due to a dispute between two groups of the same community over temple land. Following the incident, the Manoor police registered a case and a trial was conducted.
After witness testimony, Judge A. Robinson George found the accused, Raja Babu (35) and Murugan (50), guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment with a fine of ₹1,000 each. Tirunelveli Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan commended the Rural Sub-Divisional Police Officer Raghupathi Raja, Inspector Chandrasekharan, the Manoor police team, and then-Inspector Balamurugan (now in Madurai City) for their exceptional efforts in conducting a meticulous investigation, as well as Public Prosecutor Soorashankar Vel for his skillful prosecution of the case in court.
