Tamil Nadu: Tholam Thirumavalavan protests against the hike in petrol and diesel prices

Tamil Nadu: Liberation Tigers of Tamil Nadu leader Tholam Thirumavalavan has demanded the central government roll back the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices. He stated that rising fuel prices are placing an additional financial burden on the general public and the government should immediately reconsider this.

In a statement issued on Monday, Thirumavalavan alleged that the BJP government at the center has increased petrol and diesel prices for the fourth time. According to him, fuel prices have recently increased by approximately ₹3 per liter in a single day, affecting the daily living costs of ordinary people.

He also cited international circumstances and said that it is not appropriate to raise prices in the domestic market when global crude oil prices are declining. He said that with the possibility of an agreement between the US and Iran, preparations are underway to fully open the Strait of Hormuz, which was expected to improve international oil supplies and stabilize prices.

Thirumavalavan stated that at a time when the global oil market is showing signs of improvement, the continued increase in fuel prices in India is against the interests of the general public. He described this decision as directly putting economic pressure on the public and demanded that the central government immediately withdraw the increase.

He also stated that in the current era of inflation, the increase in petrol and diesel prices impacts transportation, food prices, and daily necessities. Therefore, this issue is not limited to fuel alone, but has broader economic implications.

Meanwhile, he also mentioned the tragic incident in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, in which a 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered. He described the incident as extremely serious and worrying and stressed the need to strengthen law and order in the state.

Both these issues—the increase in fuel prices and the Coimbatore incident—have sparked intense debate at the political and social levels. Opposition parties say the government should approach economic and security issues of public concern with greater sensitivity.

Overall, Thirumavalavan’s statement has once again brought the issue of petrol and diesel prices and inflation to the center of political debate. It remains to be seen how the central government responds to this demand and what the direction of fuel prices will be in the coming days.
