The India Meteorological Department on Monday said that many parts of Tamil Nadu will receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning over the next seven days.
Apart from Tamil Nadu, there will be rain at one or two places in Puducherry and Karaikal areas in the coming days.
Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely at many places over Tamil Nadu and one or two places over Puducherry and Karaikal region on January 8, the IMD release said.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvannamalai districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region on Monday,” the release further said.
It said that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Kallakurichi, Salem, Vellore, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, Chennai and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu on January 8.
Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at many places over South Tamil Nadu and a few places over North Tamil Nadu and one or two places over Puducherry and Karaikal region on January 9.
The release said that heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu on January 9.
According to the release, light to moderate rain is likely at one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal regions on January 11, 12 and 13.
The IMD has also issued a warning of heavy rainfall in Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram Chengalpattu and Tiruvannamalai districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region for January 8.
According to the IMD release issued at 1 pm, the sky is likely to remain generally cloudy for the next 24 hours. The release said that today the maximum temperature is likely to be 26-27 degrees and the minimum temperature is likely to be 22-23 degrees.
