Tamil Nadu: The number of deaths due to poisonous liquor increases in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Hooch Case The number of people who died due to poisonous liquor in Tamil Nadu is increasing continuously. According to the Collectorate, the death toll in the illegal liquor tragedy in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu has now increased to 65. On the other hand, 148 people have been discharged from hospitals across the state last evening. At the same time, 16 people are still undergoing treatment.

The number of people who died due to poisonous liquor in Tamil Nadu is increasing continuously. According to the District Collectorate, the death toll in the illegal liquor tragedy in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu has now increased to 65. On the other hand, 148 people have been discharged from hospitals across the state last evening. Officials said that two people are undergoing treatment at Kallakurichi Government Medical and Hospital. At the same time, six people are undergoing treatment in Puducherry, while eight people are being treated in government hospitals in Salem. At present, a total of 16 people are undergoing treatment.

Earlier, the NCW had taken suo motu cognizance of media reports of people dying due to alcohol consumption and constituted a three-member inquiry committee led by NCW member Khushbu Sundar to investigate the matter. A three-member delegation of the National Commission for Women led by Khushbu Sundar met the families of the victims who lost their lives after consuming spurious liquor in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu.

Earlier on June 28, an NDA delegation of BJP leaders Anil Antony, Arvind Menon and MP GK Vasan met National Commission for Scheduled Castes Chairman Kishore Makwana and submitted a memorandum regarding the Kallakurichi illicit liquor tragedy.

They appealed to the chairman to ensure that the families of the victims of the Kallakurichi illicit liquor tragedy get adequate compensation and justice.

The memorandum sought immediate intervention to provide justice to the Scheduled Caste victims of the Kallakurichi spurious liquor consumption tragedy. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami along with party workers sat on a hunger strike demanding a CBI probe into the Kallakurichi liquor tragedy and the resignation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin over the DMK government’s incompetence.
