Tamil Nadu : Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekharbabu said that the process of appointing priests in temples not following the Agama rules will begin soon. Minister Sekhar Babu inaugurated a new wooden chariot constructed at a cost of Rs 81 lakh at the Arulmighu Gangatheeswarar temple at Purasaivakkam in Chennai. He later told reporters: The 800-year-old Arulmighu Gangatheeswarar temple was renovated after 16 years at a cost of Rs 4.82 crore and the Prana Pratishtha ceremony was held on 28.11.2024. As per the Assembly announcement, work is underway to make a new gold idol for this temple at a cost of Rs 7 crore. The gold idol will be handed over to the devotees by next January to clear their debts. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Institutions Department is witnessing unprecedented renovation and Prana-Pratishtha work after the Chief Minister-led government came to power. So far, 2,970 temples have been consecrated. 7,560.73 acres of temple land worth Rs 7,674 crore has been freed from encroachment. Appointment of Archaka: We have held a consultation meeting with the lawyers of the department and those who plead in the courts in related cases regarding the appointment of Archaka in temples that do not follow the Agama rules. Very soon, the work related to the appointment of Archaka in temples that do not follow the Agama rules will start in full swing. Similarly, the Supreme Court has ordered the appointment of one person in place of another in the committee constituted for Agama rules. We will consult the Chief Minister in this regard and will soon submit the details of the replacement to the court. As soon as that work is completed, the work of the committee identifying the Agama rules will start. Tiruchendur case: The consecration of any temple is usually done in the morning. Accordingly, the time given for the consecration of the Tiruchendur temple was 6 to 7.30 am. Due to the disputes related to this, some people approached the court.
