The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday listed the items in the Pongal gift basket for rice card holders in the state and those living in Sri Lankan Tamil resettlement camps. The basket contains one kilo of rice, one kilo of sugar and one whole sugarcane. The cost details of these commodities have been fixed at Rs 32/kg for rice, Rs 40/kg for sugar and Rs 32/bar for sugarcane. It is expected that around 2.19 million ration card holders in Tamil Nadu will receive these routes. According to the order, the government has reserved Rs 238.92 crore for this initiative. According to the order issued by the Cooperative, Food and Consumer Protection Department, as of October 31, 2020, there are rice card holders worth about Rs 2 crore 19 lakh in the state.
