Tamil Nadu: Ahead of the Assembly elections, the Chennai Police Department has opened an election control room.
The Election Commission and the Police Department have initiated several precautionary measures to ensure the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are conducted peacefully, without any violence or disturbances. Police have begun working at full speed for the elections. As part of this, an election control room was opened at the Chennai Metropolitan Police Department office in Vepery. Additional Deputy Commissioner M. Kumarakuruban has been appointed the officer in charge. S. Senguttuvan has been appointed the assistant commissioner of the control room.
In addition, 20 police personnel, including four inspectors and three assistant police inspectors, have been deployed in the control room. The control room became fully operational last Friday.
Transfer of 58 more police inspectors: The Tamil Nadu Police is in the process of transferring police officers who have been working at the same location for more than three years for the Assembly elections. Director General of Tamil Nadu Police G. Venkataraman on Saturday ordered the transfer of 58 police inspectors working in various police stations and special units across the state. It is worth noting that 53 police inspectors were transferred on Friday itself.
