Tamil Nadu: Missing disabled man murdered by his colleague

Chennai: A 26-year-old man from Puzhal, who had been missing for nearly two months, was murdered by his co-worker and his friend. They dumped his body in a septic tank in Putlur, Tiruvallur district. Both the deceased and the accused have speech and hearing impairments. The deceased, Mahendran, a resident of Tenkasi district, worked at a textile warehouse in Madhavaram. Investigations revealed that Mahendran was murdered by his co-worker, Lawrence (43), and his friend, Vaidyanathan (45), on December 6. Lawrence suspected Mahendran of having an illicit relationship with his wife because he frequently visited their home and reportedly became friends with her. Lawrence had warned Mahendran not to come to his house. However, enraged by Mahendran’s alleged attempts to contact his wife, Lawrence plotted to eliminate Mahendran and took him to his village in Tiruvallur district, where they drank alcohol. Lawrence and Vaidyanathan strangled Mahendran to death and then tied his body with a rope and threw it into a septic tank. Because Mahendran’s family could not reach him, a missing person’s report was filed at the Puzhal police station in December 2025. Police initially questioned Lawrence but released him. Later, records revealed that the deceased and the accused’s mobile phones were used in the same location at the time of Mahendran’s disappearance. Subsequently, Lawrence confessed to the murder. Using a sign language interpreter during interrogation, police located the body, which was exhumed.
