Tamil Nadu : A relative of former AIADMK minister Dindigul Srinivasan died in a road accident on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor hill road on Thursday. Two people travelling with him were also seriously injured.
Karthik Raja hails from Nagamalai Pudukottai area in Madurai district. His wife Divya Priya (28) is a dentist and a relative of former AIADMK minister Dindigul Srinivasan.
Karthik Raja, Divya Priya and their relatives Parameswari (44) and Valaramathi (48) went on a trip to Ooty in the Nilgiris district by car on the 20th. After stopping there and visiting various places, they returned to Madurai by car from Ooty on Thursday evening. The car was being driven by Parthiban of Madurai.
The car suddenly failed to brake when it approached the first hairpin bend near Kallar on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor hill road and collided with a tree on the side of the road.
Karthik Raja and driver Parthiban, with the help of locals, rescued the seriously injured Divya Priya, Parameshwari and Valarmathi and rushed them to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital in an ambulance.
Doctors who examined Divya Priya there declared her dead. Parameshwari and Valarmathi are undergoing intensive treatment.
The Mettupalayam police have registered a case and are investigating the incident
