Tamil Nadu: Private meteorologist Pradeep John has stated that Cyclone Titwa, which formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal, has weakened into a depression.
He explained that the storm has weakened due to dry air, while it was expected to move towards Chennai and cross the southern Andhra coast.
Regarding this, a private meteorologist published a post stating:
“Due to the breakdown of dry air and moist air, Cyclone Titwa has now weakened into a depression. 140-220 mm of rain has fallen. Rain has been recorded in Mayiladuthurai. Rain will also occur in Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, and the delta districts of Thanjavur and Tiruvarur.”
He posted, “This low-pressure area will remain cloudless for the next 24 hours. However, new clouds will form this evening and rain will occur in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur districts, including Vellore and Ranipet. The storm is expected to make landfall very close to Chennai this evening.”
Cyclone Titwa, which formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining northern Sri Lankan waters, has moved north-northwestward and is currently in the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining southern Andhra Pradesh.
