Tamil Nadu: Congress forms committee to investigate defeat in assembly elections

Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu Congress unit has formed a special committee to investigate the party’s defeat in the state assembly elections and alleged anti-party activities. This decision was taken on the instructions of All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge. The party’s objective is to review the electoral performance and identify organizational shortcomings.
According to reports, the Congress party contested a total of 28 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections as part of the DMK alliance. Of these, the party won only five seats. This lower-than-expected victory has led to discontent and introspection within the party.
According to party sources, following the election results, complaints surfaced at various levels that some party members did not play an active role during the election campaign and, in some cases, even engaged in anti-party activities. These complaints were taken seriously and escalated to the party’s top leadership.
Based on these allegations and complaints, the Congress leadership decided to form an inquiry committee. Tamil Nadu Congress chief Girish Chodankar stated that the committee will conduct a detailed investigation into the reasons for the electoral defeat and examine the circumstances under which the party’s performance was poor.
The committee will also investigate whether certain leaders or workers did not provide the expected support during the election campaign and whether there were any major organizational lapses. Furthermore, allegations of anti-party activities will be thoroughly reviewed.
The party leadership believes that the electoral defeat may be due not only to external factors but also to internal weaknesses. Therefore, this review is considered necessary to strengthen the organization and ensure better performance in the future.
Congress leaders say that future strategies will be decided based on the investigation committee’s report. This could include steps such as organizational changes, redistribution of responsibilities, and ensuring accountability of workers.
This decision by the Tamil Nadu Congress is considered politically significant, as the party’s performance in the state, even in alliance with the DMK, has fallen short of expectations. Consequently, this investigation could play a crucial role in shaping the party’s future direction.
Following the formation of the committee, activities within the party have intensified, and the process of gathering information from all concerned parties is underway. Based on this investigation report, major changes within the organization may be seen in the coming times.
