Tamil Nadu : Three people died after eating meat at a private nursing home in Sundarapandiyapuram in Tenkasi district, taking the death toll to four after another person died on Friday morning.
A private old-age home is run in Sundarapandiyapuram. The home housed 59 people, including those with health problems and those abandoned by their families.
Shankar Ganesh (42) of Sengottai, Murugammal (60) of Sokkampatti and Ambika (40) of Sengottai suddenly fell ill after having dinner on Wednesday. All three were admitted to the Tenkasi Government Hospital.
In such a situation, on Thursday morning, Selvaraj (70) of Kovilpatti, Vijaya (66) of Madurai, Mumtaz (52), Shanti (60), Gomathi (70), Meenakshi Sundaram (64), Pechiammal (48) and Sukumar (72) of Kadayanallur also had health problems. After this, they were also admitted to the Tenkasi Government Hospital. Among those undergoing treatment, Sangkanesh, Murugammal and Ambika died.
On receiving information about this, Tenkasi District Superintendent of Police Arvind, Kottachiyar Lavanya, District Health Officer Govindan, District Food Safety Officer Pushparaj and others inspected the old age home.
The food and drinking water given to the residents were examined. After this, their samples were collected and sent for laboratory examination.
Officials said that the cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report of the deceased comes. Apart from this, 48 people living in the shelter home were medically examined and sent to a nearby government shelter home.
Sambavardhan police have registered a case and started investigation in this regard.
Meanwhile, Thanalakshmi (70), who was undergoing treatment at Tenkasi Government Hospital, died on Friday morning without any treatment. With this, the death toll has increased to 4. After the death of four people who had eaten food at Sundarapandiyapuram private nursing home, the nursing home has been closed and sealed.
