Tamil Nadu: 96 teams were formed and trained on Wednesday to collect postal votes from the elderly and disabled in all 16 assembly constituencies of Chennai.
There are a total of 35,916 voters in the 16 assembly constituencies under Chennai district, including 23,415 voters over the age of 85 and 12,501 voters with disabilities. Of these, 8,947 have expressed their desire to register their postal votes from home. Ninety-six voter registration committees have been formed to register their postal votes through the 12D application.
The team consists of a voter registration officer, two guards, a videographer, and a microscope. The training course for them took place on Wednesday at the Chennai Corporation’s Ripon Building Complex.
District Election Officer and Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran initiated the training and spoke. He went to the homes of the elderly and disabled and explained how to collect postal ballot forms.
