Taiwan: 4 Chinese naval ships, 2 military aircraft detected across the country

TAIPEI: Taiwan’s Defense Ministry has tracked four Chinese naval ships and two military aircraft around Taiwan. According to Taiwan News, navy ships and aircraft were tracked across the country between 6 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 24) and 6 a.m. Monday (Dec. 25).

According to the MND, Taiwan responded by sending aircraft and navy ships, as well as deploying air defense missile systems, to monitor People’s Liberation Army (PLA) actions.

During that period, no PLA aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait midline or reached the southwest corner of Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ).

According to Taiwan News, China has intensified the use of gray zone tactics by gradually increasing the number of military aircraft and naval ships patrolling around Taiwan since September 2020.
Specifically, according to Taiwan News, gray zone strategy is defined as “an effort or series of efforts beyond steady-state deterrence and reassurance that achieves one’s security objectives without the direct and major use of force.” Tries to do.”
Beijing has sent 222 military aircraft and 137 navy ships around Taiwan so far this month.
