Supreme Court’s decision gives relief to Hamal, reinstated to the post of typist

Bilaspur: Dhaniram Sahu was appointed to the post of Hamal in Government Engineering College Koni Bilaspur in 1988. In 1990, the post of Hamal was also regularized. In 1997, the Principal of Engineering College Koni Bilaspur issued an advertisement for recruitment of Class IV employees to the post of typist. Dhaniram Sahu had applied as he had passed the Hindi and English typing test.

After conducting the examination and interview by the recruitment committee, his name was selected for the post of typist as he was ranked first in the merit. He was appointed to the post of typist in 1997. On 22 July 1999, his appointment was declared wrong and he was demoted back to the post of Hamal.

After hearing the case, the High Court had directed the state government to appoint the petitioner to the post of typist. For this, the court had given 10 days’ time. Even after the court’s order, the appointment was not given, then the petitioner filed a contempt petition alleging disobedience of the court order. After the court’s order, he started being harassed by the engineering college management. The petitioner, through his advocate, filed an SLP in the Supreme Court and pleaded for justice. After hearing the case, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s decision and directed to reinstate the petitioner on the post of typist and pay his salary.
