Tamil Nadu: The School Education Department has announced that schools in Tamil Nadu will begin summer vacations from April 17th, and that schools will reopen on June 1st for classes 4th through 9th.
Furthermore, new textbooks will be introduced for students in grades 1st and 3rd in the new academic year, as part of a revised curriculum. Director of School Education S. Kannappan and Director of Primary Education P.O.A. Naresh stated the following in a circular sent to all District Primary Education Officers, District Education Officers, and Head Teachers on Thursday:
Final exams for students in grades 1st through 9th in government, government-aided, and private schools under the School Education Department will conclude on April 16th. Therefore, summer vacation has been declared for school students only from April 17th.
Meanwhile, all teachers working in government and government-aided primary, middle, high, and secondary schools, including those teaching LKG and UKG classes, must report to school by April 25th to complete answer sheet evaluations, student assessment work, administrative work, and election work. Schools will reopen on June 1st: Classes for the upcoming academic year (2026-2027) will begin on June 1st (Monday). Since new textbooks will be introduced for students in grades 1-3 from the upcoming academic year, teachers handling these classes will receive on-the-job training at the district level from June 1st to June 3rd. Therefore, it has been announced that the first class will be held on Thursday, June 4th, for students in grades 1, 2, and 3 only.
It is worth noting that earlier it was announced that schools would open on June 4 for students studying in grades 1 to 9, but now it has been announced that due to the introduction of the new curriculum, schools will run only for grades 1-3 from June 4.
