Stellantis car production hits 68-year low, shares fall

Delhi Delhi. 2025 has begun and it has brought some bad news from last year for some companies. Multinational automobile giant Stellantis is one of them. 2024 was the worst year in its history for the carmaker. The car company saw the production of cars in Italy fall to a 7-decade low. Car production reaching a 68-year low means a 37 percent drop in 2024 alone. This development emerging from Italy has come at a time of extreme turmoil in the automobile business, which has been hampered by several factors. First among these is the EV revolution that has swept the world, and then fatigue from EVs that fueled hybrids.

Also the major slowdown in consumption across the board, including the largest market China, has not helped the European manufacturing giants. In addition, the evergreen factor of competition from Tesla and affordable Chinese carmakers as well as traditional players has further added to the woes of companies like Stellantis. The Netherlands-based company is one of the biggest names in the industry along with companies like Japan’s Toyota and Germany’s Volkswagen. Talking about the recent plight of Stellantis, the company, which is an amalgamation of Italian American Fiat Chrysler and France’s PSA-Peugeot, sold 475,090 cars in the Mediterranean country in 2023, down sharply from 751,384 units a year earlier.
