Maharashtra: Amidst the rapidly growing trend of indigenization in India’s defense supply chain, Shree Refrigerations Limited (SRL)—a company manufacturing refrigeration and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems for the defense sector—has inaugurated a new, modern manufacturing unit in Karad, Maharashtra. The objective of this unit is to strengthen domestic production capabilities for the Indian Navy and strategic systems.
The new unit was inaugurated by Vice Admiral B. Sivakumar, Chief of Materiel, Indian Navy. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized that developing a robust indigenous defense ecosystem is essential to realizing the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India). He further noted that continuous investment in advanced manufacturing infrastructure is the need of the hour.
Spanning an area of over six acres, this new unit will significantly boost SRL’s production capacity. The company states that this expansion comes at a time when India is moving rapidly to reduce its reliance on imports and boost domestic production within the defense sector.
The state-of-the-art plant utilizes modern technologies such as robotic welding, laser cutting, and automated bending systems. Additionally, critical processes like shot blasting and painting are being carried out within the same facility, making the production process more efficient and faster.
According to the company, this unit will not only enhance production capacity but also play a pivotal role in manufacturing high-quality, defense-grade HVAC and refrigeration systems. This will enable the provision of advanced technical solutions to the Indian Navy and other strategic sectors.
Experts believe that such initiatives are significant steps toward strengthening self-reliance in India’s defense sector. Manufacturing advanced systems domestically will not only reduce dependence on imports but also enhance the country’s technological capabilities. Officials and experts present at the event praised the initiative, stating that this unit is capable of giving a new direction to India’s defense manufacturing sector. It will also boost local industries and create new employment opportunities.
Overall, this new SRL unit in Karad could prove to be a significant step in India’s defense production sector, further accelerating the goal of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India).
