Special arrangement for allotment of lower berths in trains for senior citizens, women and Divyangjan

Raipur/Delhi. Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw told in response to a question in the Lok Sabha that Indian Railways is constantly striving to provide lower berths to senior citizens, women and Divyangjan. Senior citizens, female passengers aged 45 years and above and pregnant women, if seats are available, are automatically allotted lower berths, even if they have not chosen any special option at the time of booking.

Reservation quota for Divyangjan:

If lower berths remain vacant during the journey, they are allotted on priority basis to senior citizens, Divyangjan and pregnant women who have been allotted middle or upper berths earlier.

Indian Railways is committed to these inclusive measures to provide convenient and seamless travel experience to passengers. Passengers are encouraged to avail these facilities to ensure safe and comfortable travel.
