Spain offers five-year work and residency option to Indian professionals

New Delhi: Spain has introduced a simplified residency and work process for Indian professionals, freelancers, and remote workers so that they can reside and work in the country up to five years as part of its revised Digital Nomad Visa programme.

Based on the revised regulation and the new labour law, Indian applicants who are eligible can be issued the initial residence permit of up to three years, and later it can be extended to a maximum of five years. The relocation is meant to attract high-skilled talent across the globe and to sustain the emerging remote-work environment in Spain.

Remote workers of companies located outside of Spain and freelancers and self-employed professionals that serve international clients are also eligible to have the visa. Applicant must meet a minimum income requirement of at least €2,760 (Rs 3,03,652.44) per month, plus other eligibility requirements, including demonstration of consistent employment and professional qualifications.

The Spanish authorities view the initiative as a means of increasing economic growth, as well as making the country an ideal location for digital nomads seeking long-term stability, professional flexibility, and a European lifestyle. The programme gives Indian professionals a unique opportunity to maintain career continuity and long periods of legal residence in Spain.
