Berhampur. A residential school student died of snake bite in Odisha’s Ganjam district. Sources said the student, Ridhi Pradhan, studied in class one and lived in the hostel of the residential school at Darpangia under Bhanjanagar block of the district. On Sunday night, she had dinner with other students of the hostel and went to sleep in her room. Later in the night, she started screaming in pain after being bitten by a snake.
Other students and hostel staff rushed to her room and beat the snake to death. They informed Ridhi’s father Gobarsingh Pradhan and took her to a hospital in Bhanjanagar. But she died during treatment at the hospital on Monday morning. The hostel staff identified the snake as Common Krait, a highly venomous species. It is a night snake with black skin and brown or white rings.
