Geising: The ruling SKM held a constituency-level meeting at Central Omchung under Geising-Barmeok constituency on Wednesday, with Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba as the chief guest. In his address, the Lok Sabha MP dismissed the opposition party SDF’s ‘Save Sikkim’ call as an illogical political rhetoric. He said that people who ruled Sikkim autocratically for 25 years are suddenly campaigning to ‘save Sikkim’ or for reforms, they are just trying to save themselves and their family members, But people will not accept such unfair political campaigns. “Today’s Sikkimese people are intelligent and well-informed, they will not fall prey to any politics of intimidation and lies. It is ridiculous to see opposition leaders advocating for the security and reform of Sikkim when they themselves could not do so when they led Sikkim for a quarter of a century,” said Indra Hang. Indra Hang told the gathering that the SKM government under the leadership of Chief Minister PS Golay has maintained good relations with the Centre, which has ensured that many issues of Sikkim have been addressed by the Centre. He highlighted the measures taken by the SKM government to upgrade the health, education and agriculture sectors. The Lok Sabha MP said, it was due to the strong will of the SKM government that the construction of Sanchaman Limbu Government Degree College and other educational infrastructure at Sikkim University, Geising was taken up after these projects were abandoned by the SDF government. Indra Hang stressed the need to form a strong SKM government in the upcoming assembly elections, with the next three months being crucial for the party. “Since the assembly elections are very close, the coming three months remain crucial for SKM. Let us try to ensure a solid victory and a strong SKM government in 2024,” he said. In his brief address, the area MLA-cum-Minister highlighted the creation of Soreng as a new district in West Sikkim as a historic achievement of the SKM government. This, he said, has made implementation of public works easier and people have got easy access to administration. He also talked about the benefits to Geising-Barmiok constituency after the formation of SKM government and the upcoming infrastructure projects for Geising market. Sharma said, the development work done in Geising-Barmiok during the SKM government is enough to ensure a massive victory from this constituency in the upcoming elections. Political secretary to the chief minister, Jacob Khaling, said Geising-Barmiok is a fort of the SKM, adding that the ruling front has no concerns over its victory from this constituency. “As far as SKM’s victory in the upcoming assembly elections is concerned, we do not need to worry about Geising-Barmiok constituency.
