Sister-in-law arrested in triple talaq case, husband and other in-laws absconding

Kanker. In a sensitive case related to triple talaq in the district, the Kotwali police took major action on Thursday (August 7) and arrested the accused sister-in-law. This action was taken on the complaint of the victim Salma Warsi, who has accused her husband and in-laws of mental and physical torture, starving her during pregnancy and ultimately giving triple talaq. The victim Salma Warsi alleges that she was tortured in her in-laws’ house since marriage. Especially the mother-in-law and sisters-in-law used to taunt her and misbehave with her. The victim says that even when she was pregnant, she was not given food and her husband Irfan Warsi beat and mentally harassed her.

When the situation became unbearable, Salma reached the Kotwali police station and lodged a complaint. In the complaint, she accused husband Irfan Warsi, mother-in-law Haseena Warsi, and three sisters-in-law – Shahnaz Hingora, Firoza Pochi and Salma Pothiya. Salma alleges that all of them instigated her for triple talaq and deliberately conspired to destroy her marital life. After the complaint was lodged, all the accused absconded. After this, the police intensified their search. On August 7, the police achieved a major success and arrested the accused sister-in-law Shahnaz Hingora from Simga. She was produced in the court and further legal procedures were completed. Police said that Shahnaz is accused of instigating her brother for divorce and interfering in the marital life.

Other accused still absconding, police intensified raids

After Shahnaz’s arrest, the police said that the other accused—husband Irfan, mother-in-law Hasina, and two other sisters-in-law—are currently absconding. The police raided several possible hideouts, including the Civil Lines area of Gariaband, but the accused were not caught. Now the police have activated informers and claimed that everyone will be arrested soon. Case registered under legal sections

In this entire case, the Kotwali police has registered a case of cruelty under Section 85 of the new Indian Justice Code (BNS) implemented in the Indian judicial system, and giving triple talaq under Section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Marriage Rights) Act. This section holds the accused guilty for giving unilateral divorce to a Muslim woman. Police say that the investigation is going on and all aspects are being closely investigated. Due to serious social and legal issues like triple talaq being involved in this case, the police is taking action with full caution.

An example of social message and legal strictness
This case that came to light in Kanker district is not only an example of violation of a woman’s rights, but also shows that with the help of law, oppressed women can fight for justice. It has also become clear from the police action that cases like triple talaq will no longer be taken lightly.
