Karnataka : Taluk Panchayat EO Channabasappa Havanagi inspected the ongoing works under the NREGA scheme in various schools of the taluk on Tuesday.
On this occasion, he said, ‘Construction of complexes is necessary for the safety of schools and protection of school campus properties. But due to lack of funds in government schools, many schools do not have the facility of complexes. Therefore, school development works have been given priority under Mahatma Gandhi Employment Guarantee Scheme and provision has been made for the safety of schools. Many works like toilets, playgrounds, Anganwadi buildings, rainwater harvesting, complexes, kitchens, dining rooms, etc. have been implemented for the development of government schools under NREGA. With this, the necessary basic facilities are being provided to the rural schools one by one.’
‘In the financial year 2024-25, the construction work of 4 school toilets has been started across the taluk, out of which 3 have been completed and one is in the final stage.’ Construction of 12 school complexes has been completed, of which 9 have been completed, 2 more are under construction and one is yet to start. Work on 3 out of 6 playgrounds has been completed and 3 more are yet to start. Construction of a kitchen at Kadakoda School under Itaguli Gram Panchayat is in the final stage and will be completed soon. School development has been considered very important in the NREGA scheme and it has played a vital role in the development of government schools. It should be properly utilised, he said.
