Single-phase polling in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry tomorrow

New Delhi: All preparations are complete for the assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry. Voting will be held in a single phase in these three regions, with over 61 million voters exercising their franchise.

According to election officials, extensive security arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process. Additional security forces have been deployed in sensitive areas, and necessary facilities have been provided at all polling stations.

In Assam, the main contest is between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and opposition parties. The BJP is seeking a third consecutive term in power. The party has made its development work and policies an election issue. Meanwhile, opposition parties are raising questions about the government’s performance.

In Kerala, the electoral contest is between the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF). Kerala politics has long seen a shift in power between the LDF and UDF. This time, the LDF is attempting to break this tradition and retain power for a second consecutive term.

Puducherry is also witnessing a fierce competition between various political parties. There is competition between regional and national parties, with local issues being prioritized.

The Election Commission has appealed to voters to vote in large numbers. The Commission states that every vote is important in a democracy and all eligible voters should exercise their right.

Officials stated that EVMs and VVPAT machines have been arranged at polling stations. Furthermore, COVID-19 guidelines are being followed to ensure voters can cast their votes in a safe environment.

Political parties have raised various issues during the election campaign. Development, employment, and law and order were the key issues in Assam, while education, health, and social welfare schemes were discussed in Kerala. In Puducherry, local development and infrastructure were the key issues.
