Singapore sends investigators to Baltimore to help probe bridge incident

Singapore: The ‘Francis Scott Key Bridge’ in America’s Baltimore city collapsed due to a collision with a big ship in the early hours of Tuesday. Singapore’s Transport Safety Investigation Bureau and the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) have sent officials to Baltimore, US to assist in the investigation of the incident. A Singapore-flagged container ship collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore on Tuesday, causing the bridge to collapse like a deck of cards. According to ship management company Synergy Marine Pte Ltd, the ship had lost power to move forward before the incident. Due to which the ship failed to maintain direction and collided with the bridge. “The ship had dropped its anchor in accordance with emergency procedures before hitting the bridge,” the MPA said. Search and rescue efforts are underway under the leadership of US authorities, according to the statement.
