Sindhu lost in the final of Spain Masters

Madrid (IANS)| India’s top shuttler PV Sindhu suffered a 1-sided 8-21, 8-21 defeat to Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the final of the Spain Masters on Sunday.

World No. 11 and seeded second in the tournament, it was Sindhu’s first final of the year.

Prior to this BWF Super 300 tournament in Madrid, Sindhu had not gone beyond the second round in any tournament on the BWF World Tour 2023.

Tunjung, seeded 12th, had earlier defeated top seed and former Olympic champion Carolina Marin in the semi-finals.

Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu could not do anything against Tunjung and faced defeat in just 28 minutes.

It was 23-year-old Tunjung’s first win against Sindhu in eight meetings and her maiden World Tour title.
