Mandya (IANS) | Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah’s son Yatindra Siddaramaiah on Saturday said he will not contest the upcoming assembly elections. Congress MLA Yatindra from Varuna constituency represented the same constituency in the 2018 assembly elections. But, this time Siddaramaiah is contesting from Varuna seat and there was curiosity about which seat Yatindra would contest from.
Yatindra explained, I will not contest from any constituency. I have started campaigning for my father Siddaramaiah since January. Varuna constituency does not belong to any individual. I have not given up my seat for my father. Voters are the owners of the constituency.
This is my father’s last election and the people of Varuna constituency wanted him to contest. Yatindra won from Varuna constituency with a margin of over 45,000 votes. He has earned a good name for himself in the constituency for his polite and reciprocating behaviour. Yatindra is a doctor by profession.
Sources said that since Siddaramaiah would be busy campaigning across the state, his son took up the responsibility of ensuring his victory from the Varuna constituency.
Sources say that Siddaramaiah had fielded G.K. God’s defeat was ensured. Similarly, Siddaramaiah asked state party president D.K. Shivakumar and did not include him in the cabinet for a long time. These days he is competing with him for the post of Chief Minister.
Keeping various factors in mind, Siddaramaiah’s team is not taking any chances and choosing a safe seat for him. Although political circles say that anything can happen in Varuna assembly constituency.
