Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said 1,400 new electric buses will be added to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation by April next year.
Siddaramaiah said, “So far, 120 crore women have traveled free in state transport buses. Around 40 lakh people travel in BMTC buses. “Women of all castes, religions and classes are traveling freely.” Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation after launching 100 electric buses in front of the East Gate of Vidhana Soudha.
He also hit out at the BJP for criticizing the free bus travel scheme and questioned why it did not implement such a pro-people scheme when it was in power.
Describing the positive results of the government’s pro-people schemes, the CM said, “The purchasing power of the people in the state has increased and financial activities have increased, which has boosted the economy of the state. Farm and female laborers and women working class can save substantial money. “This is helping them meet their other financial needs and also increasing the financial strength of such families.”
He further said that 4.30 crore people are availing the benefits of the guarantee schemes.
“With increased financial power, the poor and the working class are being enabled to come into the mainstream. This became possible only after Congress came to power. The previous BJP government, which failed to achieve this, is busy criticizing us.” Karnataka CM said.
Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshad presided over the function and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Transport Minister Ramalongareddy were also present.
RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge, Higher Education Minister Dr MC Sudhakar, Sports Minister Nagendra, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, MLC UB Venkatesh, Political Secretary to Chief Minister Govindaraju, Nasir Ahmed and others were also present at the event.
