Punjab: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Monday received an email threatening to blow up the Golden Temple. A complaint was immediately lodged with the city police, following which security was beefed up in and around the temple. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the incident and said, “Bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage teams have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.”
He said cyber crime and other police agencies have been roped in for investigation and the police will soon crack the case. Bhullar said, “It seems to be the handiwork of some mischievous elements talking about incidents in South India.” SGPC manager Bhagwant Singh said the internet section received the threatening mail. He said the mail was immediately forwarded to the police. He said, “The SGPC has beefed up security inside the temple while the police have also made elaborate arrangements outside. We are keeping a close watch inside the complex.”
