Sexual assault of lady doctor in Kolkata: Doctors of Bhubaneswar AIIMS stage protest, refrain from work

Bhubaneswar: The senior resident, junior resident, medical students in AIIMS Bhubaneswar have started a protest against the lady doctor rape in Kolkata.

The doctors of AIIMS in Bhubaneswar have started the movement demanding justice for the victim and proper investigation and in future protection for the doctors.

The doctors are agitating wearing a white bandage on his head and a black band on their arm. Apart from the emergency services, doctors have refrained from working in OPD, IPD and OT. Due to this protest patient care has faced issues in this major hospital. Only professors and assistant professors are engaged in patient care.

The body of the postgraduate trainee was found inside a seminar hall of the state run RG Kar hospital on Friday morning. She was allegedly raped brutally and murdered. Later the accused, a civic volunteer was arrested in this connection on Saturday.

In the latest development in rape and murder case of 31-year-old doctor in Kolkata, the Calcutta High court on Tuesday has transferred the case to the Cental Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court have also asked the police to hand over the case and submit papers related to the case to CBI, by 10 am on Wednesday.

The Bengal government has also requested doctors to return to work and resume emergency services. The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association has announced the extension of its indefinite strike to protest the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said Kolkata Police must complete their probe by Sunday.
