Sex trafficking of Kenyan girls just tip of the iceberg: ARZ
Panaji: Expressing serious concern over the nexus of sex trafficking across Goa, Other Rahat Zindagi (ARZ) President Arun Pandey said this is just the tip of the iceberg and it appears that many more girls have become victims. of this network. ,
Pandey’s statement comes in the wake of revelations of another case in which a Kenyan man was allegedly involved in criminal activities while staying in Goa on a student visa. I have emphasized that the rescued girls represent only a part of the larger problem.
I have requested the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the investigation into sex trafficking, while the Enforcement Directorate is investigating the financial transactions in the said case.
Claiming that this network may have trafficked more than 100 girls, Pandey said, “A few girls rescued and a few girls arrested will not solve or end this problem of sex trafficking in Goa. “We as an anti-sex trafficking organization appeal that the ED should be allowed to investigate the financial transactions and on the other hand, the NIA should take over and investigate sex trafficking,” he said.
Goa is number one state in deporting foreign nationals caught in crimes: DGP
Panaji: Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh said Goa is the first state in the country to have deported the highest number of foreign nationals caught in crimes.
Speaking to O Heraldo in the backdrop of the arrest of a Kenyan national by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of the crackdown against sex trafficking, DGP Singh informed that the case was originally registered by the Anjuna police.
“We had conducted a raid and arrested a Kenyan for this crime. Now, since it is a scheduled offence, it is tagged with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). We have sent a copy of the FIR to ED.”
The ED then conducts a follow-up investigation to determine whether money laundering was involved,” he said.
Explaining the role of ED in smuggling, he said that uncovering other aspects of smuggling is a long investigation and being a nodal agency, ED has reached all over India.
Asked if it was difficult to track foreigners coming to the state, the DGP said, “Once you have a special visa, you land at a special immigration counter and then you are free to roam around. Are. Unless he is a citizen of China, Pakistan or Afghanistan, his movements are banned and he is asked to report to the nearest police station. But otherwise you are free to roam wherever you want,” he said.
“Unless you have a confrontation with the authorities, there will be no follow-up. The Kenyan who has been captured will remain in jail and will be blacklisted,” he said.
“We have a detention center and we are the first state to deport foreigners caught breaking the law,” he said.
