Senior AIADMK leader S. Semmalai resigns from the party

Tamil Nadu: Senior All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader S. Semmalai resigned from the party on Monday in Chennai. His move is being seen as another sign of ongoing discontent and internal divisions within the party.
In his resignation letter, S. Semmalai clearly stated that he was deeply disappointed by the growing internal rift and lack of opportunities within the party following the demise of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. He said that the organization he had worked to strengthen for years no longer possessed the same sense of unity and respect for workers as before.
In his resignation letter, Semmalai expressed his deep sadness at the situation that has developed within the AIADMK since the elections. He also noted that this was not just his personal sentiment, but also that of millions of workers who have dedicated their lives to strengthening the movement.
He stated that changes in the decision-making process and leadership style within the party have marginalized grassroots workers and longtime leaders. Consequently, many senior leaders and workers are feeling uneasy. Semmalai also indicated that there is a growing lack of coordination and communication within the organization, affecting the party’s internal structure.
The AIADMK is a major political party in Tamil Nadu, founded by M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) and later, under the leadership of J. Jayalalithaa, it established a strong hold in state politics. Since Jayalalithaa’s death, the party has been grappling with the challenges of a leadership crisis and factionalism.
Political analysts believe that S. Semmalai’s resignation is another blow to the party, as several senior leaders have distanced themselves from the organization or expressed dissatisfaction in recent years. This is likely to impact the party’s grassroots presence and the morale of its workers.
In her statement, Semmalai also indicated that the party appears to be deviating from its core principles and organizational values under the current circumstances. She stated that she made this decision after much deliberation and that it was emotionally difficult for her.
This development has sparked political turmoil within the AIADMK, and no detailed response to the resignation has yet been issued by the party leadership. However, it is believed that the party will soon attempt to control the situation and contain internal dissent.
Overall, S. Semmalai’s resignation is being seen as another organizational challenge for the AIADMK, which is already facing leadership and unity issues.
