Semiconductor Industry: A vision to enhance India’s global reputation New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S Krishnan said India has the talent and deep experience to become a global player in the semiconductor industry, a key sector for the country. Speaking at a conference organised by fabless semiconductor company IVP Semiconductor, Krishnan said the government is helping the industry to create an ecosystem for manufacturing semiconductors. He highlighted the government’s commitment to create an enabling environment for the industry to grow, including the necessary support and infrastructure. The secretary also mentioned that IVP Semiconductor plays a key role in creating demand to fill the manufacturing capacity at wafer fabs. “I would like to congratulate IVP Semiconductor for creating an Indian fabless chip company,” he said.
According to global management consultancy McKinsey, the semiconductor industry is expected to become a trillion-dollar industry globally, while the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) estimates that the sector will reach $100 billion in 2030. Meanwhile, a recent report by TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship states that the country will need 2.5-3 lakh skilled professionals by 2027 in the areas of research and development (R&D), design, manufacturing, and advanced packaging. This expansion is set to create around 1 million jobs globally by 2025-2026, in line with India’s broader economic and industrial development goals, the report mentioned.
