SDF delegation reached among landslide victims, raised demand for permanent rehabilitation

GANGTOK : A Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) delegation on Thursday visited relief camps at Upper Lingee in East Sikkim and demanded that the State government expedite the permanent rehabilitation of families displaced by a recent landslide.

According to a press release issued by the party, the delegation visited relief camps at Daara Kharka government primary school and a tourism centre, where 36 families displaced by the June 27 landslide at Upper Lingee, Daara Kharka Manipuri Gaon are currently taking shelter.

The delegation interacted with the affected residents and distributed relief materials including ration supplies and blankets, the release mentions.

The party said the delegation conveyed SDF president Pawan Chamling’s message that the party “stands firmly with the victims and wholeheartedly supports their demand for permanent rehabilitation in a safe and secure location.”

The SDF urged the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government to take immediate steps to ensure the early permanent resettlement of all the affected families so that they can rebuild their lives.
