Guwahati (IANS) | Former Australian captain Steve Smith has heaped praise on Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson, who led the team to the final last season. Smith said Samson is no longer young in terms of experience but will look to take confidence from his campaign last season.
Samson made a great start to his campaign in this year’s IPL, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs in their first match.
“Samson is a young player but not young in terms of experience. He brilliantly led the Royals last season and the team reached the finals,” Smith said on IPL’s official TV broadcaster Star Sports. Will take confidence from K’s campaign. I feel Rajasthan Royals will do well this season as well.”
Against Samson on Wednesday will be Shikhar Dhawan of Punjab Kings who would like to prove himself as a captain along with batting.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports, “Shikhar Dhawan is the senior player of IPL and his performance has been consistent with the bat. He has to prove himself as a captain this year and for that his batting is important. Being in and out of the team must have worried him and he would want to prove that he is still the real Gabbar of Indian cricket.
